Airds of Kells extension, Mossdale, Castle Douglas
Size: 300 sq. ft.
After completion of the main property at Airds of Kells, Birch developments were asked to continue work to the house by adding an extension.
The extension comprises of a utility room and downstairs wet room. After the long process of having meetings with the clients and the architect, a final shape and construction was agreed to then be forwarded on to the council in order to obtain the relevant planning consents.
Fortunately the plans were approved in time for work to commence immediately after completion of the main property.
The shape of the addition is an unusual one, featuring a quarter turn in the wall which in turn creates a very challenging roof structure. The unusual shape has been designed to mirror the look of that on the other side of the property. It is to have a stone outer skin to match existing, a slated roof and hardwood windows all in keeping with the age of the house.
Pictures of the different stages of the build will be added as it progresses in order to keep the client and future clients informed of progress.
News: After discussions with the client, the decision to reduce the size of the wet room was made. This room will now only have a toilet in it. This will now make the utility room much larger and also will cut the costs for the client now that the shower and basin will not be installed. This proposal was discussed with building control and was agreed.
All internal work to the extension is complete and is now ready for the fitting of the toilet, radiator and complete paint out.
